Konnichiwa from Japan!
Yesterday, we received an email sent all the way across the seas from Japan.
Konnichiwa from Jess and Kenji.
It might be Day 1 of Term 3, but it’s Day 12 on the Japan trip!
Students experienced a home stay and school visit to Wonthaggi’s sister school in Hakui for one week, then travelled to the ancient capital of Kyoto for shrines and temples, Osaka for theme parks and castles, Hiroshima for an important peace message, and finally Fukuoka to experience a sprawling metropolis and current pop culture.
It’s been 32 degrees with 98% humidity, so everyone is hot and tired, but doing well.
There’s been some tears, homesickness, dehydration, allergies and blisters (Kenji and I have been busy!) but the students have ultimately done a remarkable job of adapting to a culture very unlike their own, and using their developing Japanese language skills in an authentic, meaningful and memorable way.
See you next Monday.
Jess and Kenji
Reading about their adventure makes me extremely envious and I’m sure many of us here at WSC can’t wait for them to come back home and tell us all about their great experiences.
