Senior Girls Football Report
Our Senior Girls football team travelled to Trinity Grammar on 16th August to compete in the State finals. We were up against Box Hill Senior Secondary School, who were tough opposition given their school delivers an AFLW program as part of their sports academy program.
Box Hill’s superior preparation and aggression at the ball got them away to a strong start. However to their great credit, the WSC girls adjusted and fought their way back into the game, playing an unfashionable but effective direct brand of football. At half time, Box Hill held a narrow two-goal advantage.
WSC had the wind in the third quarter and really dominated possession, but due to some inaccurate kicking, we were only able to close to within a goal. The last quarter involved more spirited effort and again we had our opportunities, but it wasn’t to be as Box Hill used the wind to run out winners by 3 goals.
A great job by the girls, thanks so much for being such a well-organised and committed group… and fun to coach!
(Box Hill came close in the final, losing by 5 points – shows how close we got! Next year we will have a strong team again with only three Year 12 girls moving on, and an actual oval for some training, so perhaps we can go one better?!)
BEST PLAYERS: A very even team effort, led by strong performances from Ash Moxey, Grace McRae & Juliette Townsend. Well done to all!
