On Tuesday 6th August a selection of year 10’s accompanied by year 11 and year 12 VCAL Wonthaggi Secondary College students were given the opportunity to hear the journeys of representatives of the community and their personal pathways on how they got to where they are now with their careers at the Inspiring Young People event at the Wonthaggi Workman’s Club.
On Tuesday 6 August, boys from our Year 11 VCAL class were interviewed about a project they have been working on since late term one.
At this years’ state cross country we had 8 students compete against the best runners in Victoria. Baia Pugh placed 2nd and qualified to represent the Victorian Team, where she will compete at the National Championships in Wollongong on the 24th August. A fantastic effort and good luck Baia!
On Wednesday 31st July, mathematician Professor Arun Ram and pianist and past WSC student Josh Hooke visited Dudley Campus from the University of Melbourne. What links a professor of mathematics and an amazing performer on the piano? Quite a bit, it turns out.
On Tuesday 6th August a bus load of McBride students travelled to Traralgon for the Gippsland Netball finals. Our intermediate boys team, with coach Jesse Boyd, won all of their games comprehensively and sealed themselves a spot in the State finals.
On Thursday 1st August Mr Osmond, Alana and Mrs Morris took our senior basketballers over to Leongatha to play in the South Gippsland competition.
On Wednesday 12 students competed at Morwell gun club in the Alpine Country Gippsland school clay target shoot. Wonthaggi students performed extremely well with Dakota Suckling winning the senior girls and Lilly Hamilton collecting third.

On Thursday July 24th, 12 local representatives came and presented their work history and work pathways to the VCAL Literacy students, by way of a speed dating model.
Made memorable by a respectful and cohesive year level, along with one of the best Dj’s we have employed, the 2019 formal went off with a bang.
On Monday 27 May and in blizzard conditions, the World Challenge crew raised $320 profit by cooking sausages for cold, hungry and exhausted runners from schools in the South Gippsland Division.
The Year 12 Business Management class enjoyed at recent tour of the Saputo Devondale Factory in Leongatha. Students were given a tour of the site and were able to observe the production of Devondale butters, spreads and UHT long life milk.
