Our Senior Girls Basketball team travelled to MSAC on Tuesday 17th September to compete in the State titles. The girls played so well and were excellent representatives for our college. They were enthusiastic on the trip up to come away with a medal, and they kept up with the competition and games were close.
The past three weeks here in China have been just as hectic as the first, assignments, border crossing and lots of walking. The second week was our first service activity where we ran games for the school community where we are staying. Everyone enjoyed it and met some new people, some were better at English than others…
Wonthaggi Secondary College Year 7 Boys Football team competed in the State Quarter Finals on the 14th August 2019. The boys battled hard and showed plenty of class throughout their game against Rowville who have made the State GF game.
Our Senior Girls and Boys Basketball teams competed at the Gippsland Region competition in Traralgon on Monday 19th August. Our boys team beat Bairnsdale and Sale, however had a tough match against Marist Sion.
Students have enjoyed experiencing the local environment, riding a chair-lift and climbing “Lion Mountain” Lofushan, including visiting a beautiful Taoist temple. The language and cultural guides in the program are exceptional and provide learning and interpretation at every opportunity.
On Monday August 12th 35 students from Wonthaggi Secondary College travelled to Yarram to compete in the Yarram Eisteddfod. Our competing groups were: The Senior Concert Band, The Big Band, The Guitar Ensemble, The Brass Ensemble, The Flute Ensemble and The Saxophone Ensemble.
Yesterday was a sensational day for our HPV team. 9 students and 3 staff went to Monash University where Monash Human Power had arranged for a tour, activities as well as analysis of how effective our vehicle’s aerodynamics were through the use of the wind tunnel.
On Friday 9th August the Junior Boys and Year 8 Girls netball teams travelled to Traralgon for the Gippsland finals. The girls took some time to warm up in their first game coming away with a five goal win against Nagle College. Game two saw the girls find their form and put on a great display and come away with a strong win against Lowanna College.
On Wednesday 31st July, mathematician Professor Arun Ram and pianist and past WSC student Josh Hooke visited Dudley Campus from the University of Melbourne. What links a professor of mathematics and an amazing performer on the piano? Quite a bit, it turns out.
On Wednesday 12 students competed at Morwell gun club in the Alpine Country Gippsland school clay target shoot. Wonthaggi students performed extremely well with Dakota Suckling winning the senior girls and Lilly Hamilton collecting third.
On Thursday July 24th, 12 local representatives came and presented their work history and work pathways to the VCAL Literacy students, by way of a speed dating model.
Made memorable by a respectful and cohesive year level, along with one of the best Dj’s we have employed, the 2019 formal went off with a bang.
