Our Senior Girls Basketball team travelled to MSAC on Tuesday 17th September to compete in the State titles. The girls played so well and were excellent representatives for our college. They were enthusiastic on the trip up to come away with a medal, and they kept up with the competition and games were close.
The Intermediate Boys Netball Team attended the Victorian State Championships held at Jells Park in week 8. The team was previously successful at the Division level defeating Korumburra in the final, then again at Regional level going through undefeated.
Wonthaggi Secondary College Year 7 Boys Football team competed in the State Quarter Finals on the 14th August 2019. The boys battled hard and showed plenty of class throughout their game against Rowville who have made the State GF game.
The WSC year 10 team travelled up to Reservoir on Thursday 15th August. The opponent was Rowville Secondary College, a football academy school.
Our Senior Girls and Boys Basketball teams competed at the Gippsland Region competition in Traralgon on Monday 19th August. Our boys team beat Bairnsdale and Sale, however had a tough match against Marist Sion.
Our Senior Girls football team travelled to Trinity Grammar on 16th August to compete in the State finals. We were up against Box Hill Senior Secondary School, who were tough opposition given their school delivers an AFLW program as part of their sports academy program.
On Friday 9th August the Junior Boys and Year 8 Girls netball teams travelled to Traralgon for the Gippsland finals. The girls took some time to warm up in their first game coming away with a five goal win against Nagle College. Game two saw the girls find their form and put on a great display and come away with a strong win against Lowanna College.
At this years’ state cross country we had 8 students compete against the best runners in Victoria. Baia Pugh placed 2nd and qualified to represent the Victorian Team, where she will compete at the National Championships in Wollongong on the 24th August. A fantastic effort and good luck Baia!
On Tuesday 6th August a bus load of McBride students travelled to Traralgon for the Gippsland Netball finals. Our intermediate boys team, with coach Jesse Boyd, won all of their games comprehensively and sealed themselves a spot in the State finals.
On Thursday 1st August Mr Osmond, Alana and Mrs Morris took our senior basketballers over to Leongatha to play in the South Gippsland competition.
On Thursday 33 students from Wonthaggi Secondary College took on the hills at Lardner park to compete in the Gippsland Region Cross Country. The day started out bitterly cold, however the sun soon came out and conditions proved perfect for running.
The girls played a fast-paced brand of team footy and the coaching staff gave everyone an opportunity to get involved. WSC had nine different goal scorers on the day with Felicity Tack kicking four. Such was WSC’s dominance that even Sid “I only play backline” Mullins managed to put one through the big sticks!
