On Tuesday 4 February, Glenn McGinley and I took the Year 11 VCAL classes to visit the DESAL plant. After a general OHS training video, and booklet to be filled in, students were given a brief history of the plant by Tim Scott, and taken on a tour.
Weeks of planning paid off today as the whole class worked together to sell food for a BBQ lunch, a range of sweet foods, and crazy coloured Jolly Sole socks, leading to a $637.15 profit on ‘Are You Okay’ National Mental Health Day.
On Tuesday 6th August a selection of year 10’s accompanied by year 11 and year 12 VCAL Wonthaggi Secondary College students were given the opportunity to hear the journeys of representatives of the community and their personal pathways on how they got to where they are now with their careers at the Inspiring Young People event at the Wonthaggi Workman’s Club.
On Tuesday 6 August, boys from our Year 11 VCAL class were interviewed about a project they have been working on since late term one.
On Thursday July 24th, 12 local representatives came and presented their work history and work pathways to the VCAL Literacy students, by way of a speed dating model.
On Monday 13th May, the Senior class visited the Heidelberg and Preston Campuses of Melbourne Polytechnic. Starting the tour was a visit of the Heidelberg Campus, specialising in the areas of Electrical, Facbrication, Plumbing and Carpentry.
On the 29th April and the 2nd May, the Senior VCAL class and the first of two Year 11 VCAL classes, with thanks to Karena Kerr from LLEN, took part in the Watersure OHS Training.
